Betsey J. Jeffery

Betsey J. Jeffery obtained her juris doctor and bachelors of science degrees at Western State University in 1986, following completion of her associate degree in registered nursing at Golden West in 1981, and after completion of two years of undergraduate study in mathematics at California State University at Fullerton. She has been licensed by the State Bar of California since 1988, and has practiced medical malpractice law since that time.

Betsey was an associate attorney at Hillsinger & Costanzo from 1988 to 1989, and then was an associate at Beam, Brobeck & West from 1989 to 1998. Thereafter, she had her own plaintiff practice until 2005, while she was also a practicing real estate broker. Betsey has tried approximately 20 trials and binding arbitrations as lead attorney. Some of her defense clients in trial have been The Regents of The University of California, The Doctors’ Company, SCPIE and the National Chiropractic Counsel. Betsey’s legal sub-specialty within medical malpractice is the defense of birth injury cases, including hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy and shoulder dystocia matters.

Betsey is currently a member of the Southern California Association of Defense Counsel. She has been a registered nurse since 1982, with specialty focus in neonatal intensive care and labor and delivery, with certification in electric fetal heart monitoring. Her nursing license is currently active.
